Join local Walyalup (Fremantle) ceramicist Sally Smith from Deep Earth Ceramics and learn all about the fun and meditative craft of slab building, creating your own carved bell. Starting with a slab piece you'll build your bell around a mould to achieve the organic bell shape. You'll have the opportunity to customise your bell by adding your own unique carving marks, making the piece one of a kind. A technique Sally will guide you through step by step. This dark stoneware bell is perfect to hang in your garden, patio, or veranda, anywhere you get a nice gentle breeze.

In this hands-on workshop you'll have time to make 1 hanging bell chime (approximately 11cm high x 12cm wide), along with all its components. Once fired, Sally will construct your carved bell ready for collection. 

All tools, materials and light morning tea will be provided. There are no previous skills required, simply bring your authentic self. Participants are welcome to bring along their own aprons or borrow one of ours.

Important details

Your piece will be glazed and fired at Sally's studio. Cost included in your ticket. A huge amount of care is exercised when finishing off your precious hand-made items. Please note that clay is unpredictable and on rare occasions, items break in the kiln. This is all a natural part of the fun of perfecting your craft.

Works will be available within ~5-6 weeks of the class date from the Stackwood store. You will be contacted when they are ready to pick up.
