This workshop will teach you to make a feature of clothing flaws and embrace imperfection.

Inspired by traditional Japanese sashiko and boro techniques, this method reinforces worn out fabric while creating a beautiful hand-stitched feature and saves your favourite wardrobe items from landfill.

The techniques you will learn are perfect for mending jeans, pants, jackets and other garments made from medium to heavy-weight fabrics, and once learnt are very easy to replicate from home.

This workshop is suitable for beginnings or experienced sewers keen to learn a new skill.

Bring

Bring an item of clothing to mend at the workshop or work on one of our practice pieces.

All tools, materials and light morning tea will be provided, including needles, threads, and patching fabric.

About Gabriel

Gabriel Alys is the maker behind Stitch Hour Studio. She started visible mending when she tore a big hole in her favourite pair of jeans and didn't want to simply throw them away. Gabriel writes about how to opt out of the fast fashion cycle by making and mending clothing. Gabriel uses sewing to unplug, relax and tap into her creativity. She believes in taking things one stitch at a time and enjoying the process.
