How To Made Local Market Like a Pro

The Made Local Market is our favourite event of the season and we want it to be yours too. There are a few actions you can take to make your market experience the best possible one, including getting down early, avoiding the crowds, getting a great parking spot and taking advantage of all the wonderful activities we have on offer. Here are a few top tips on navigating the market:

1. Get down early

If you want to avoid the crowds get down when the market kicks off at 3pm Friday to give yourself the best chance of having a quiet stroll through. Getting first pick of our makers products isn't bad either. Opening times are 3pm - 9pm on Friday and 9am - 4pm on Saturday & Sunday.

If you want to get your hands on a loaf of Fable Bakery bread make sure you join us in the morning on Saturday or Sunday, they have a habit of flying off the shelves by midday.

2. Bring cash

All our vendors have credit card facilities but you might struggle if you are AMEX only. You will need $2 cash entry for the door if you are an adult (kids free) and if you are a kid you might need $5 - $10 cash for kids activities (by donation to our artists).

Our bar is open on Friday evening and also has credit card facilities, along with our food truck fleet.

3. Park at Booyeembara

There is parking at the front of Stackwood and on the adjacent streets. Please make sure you are not parking on or across driveways (they can be trickier to spot in the industrial area)  - we love our neighbours and hope they continue to love us!

There is overflow at Booyeembara Park which is our pick of parking.

4. Entertain the little ones

Our kids activities will run all weekend during market hours with Ariane from Earth Friendly Arts. Have your kids 'hand-make' their own Christmas gifts (just like our talented makers!) It involves plaster craft but shouldn't be too messy. Please stay with your children during the craft activity to ensure they are supervised at all times.

We ensure that there is enough room to push prams around the market although during the busiest times this might be a little challenging. You will also need to lift the pram from the upper to the lower levels - if you are having trouble ask us to help! Opting for a wrap if this works for you will give you more movement around the market.

5. Don't miss the music session

Local songstress Racoo will be playing a great little music session for us on Friday night at 6pm. It's a chance for us to celebrate the local music scene. The bar will be open for this session (3pm - 9pm on Friday only!)

6. Grab some eats

Some of Perth's best foodies will be joining us with fresh Summer eats including iconic food vans Comida do Sul (Friday night only) and Eat No Evil (all weekend). On Saturday & Sunday vegan favourites Bean Eatin' will join the party.

There will be coffee by Stacked Cafe all weekend and Kuld Creamery serving up some of the best ice cream in town from 11am each day!

We have so many food options available for the market including for people who are gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan.

7. Bring your four-legged friends

We love well-behaved pooches, so bring them on down with you. Be prepared with poop bags and water (although we always have a bowl out the front for hot dogs to drink from), and if you have a nervous dog or one that doesn't like crowds it's best to leave them at home.

8. Wheelchair accessibility

Entry is possible for wheelchairs and there are accessible toilets on site, however to get between the top and lower levels you will need to cross over between our carparks. We are putting in place a plan to remedy this which will be available soon!

9. Have fun, support local

Buying from local makers is fun and rewarding. You'll come across beautiful one-off or small run pieces that you won't find when you head to your local shopping centre. When you shop locally you are supporting individuals and families in your local community - and that should make you feel good this silly season!

If you are interested in how to shop more consciously this Christmas read our guide here.
